Struggling with Pornography?

Even churches that don’t THINK they have a problem with the men in their congregation being troubled with pornography addiction are surprised when they actually take a survey.

Mike Genung writes about how he never believed that the men in “his church” struggled with pornography:

Wanting to prove the numbers wrong, in the spring of 2004 I approached the leadership of our church and asked if we could survey the men on the topic of pornography. Our numbers will be different; “half” can’t be true here, I thought. Of those who responded, 25 percent had looked at porn within the past 30 days, 44 percent within six months, and 61 percent within the year. The real statistic is probably higher; I heard later that a number of men didn’t fill out the survey “because they were afraid of how it would be used.”

Pornography, though, doesn’t stay private for long.  At some point it reaches over into daily life and destroys homes, families, jobs, and relationships – both with God and those we love.

Consider former pastor Nate Larkin’s story. He was first exposed to pornography on a seminary field trip designed to warn him of the DANGERS of it!  Soon the pornography “possessed him”.  He couldn’t keep it confined to the pages of a magazine or his computer screen. It demanded more and more of his time and money and ultimately drove him from the pastorate for fear of exposure.

While he no longer had to fear that his church might find out, his relationship with his family continued to deteriorate.

It wasn’t until God broke through that he found the power to escape the invisible chains of his addiction.

Lawrenceburg Celebrate Recovery meets every Thursday at St. Andrew’s Church at 6:00 PM for a light supper, 7:00 PM for large group worship and 12 Step Study or Testimonies, and at 8:00 PM for Open small group sharing with separate groups for men and women.

St. Andrew’s Church is located in the Nature’s Nuggets complex at 1029 West Gaines across from Taz Mart.  All who want to be able to freely talk about their problems and the solution found in Jesus Christ are welcome to be part of this non-threatening, non-judgmental and confidential ministry.
