Why St. Andrew’s?

What’s up with that ‘motto’?
Saint Andrew’s Church has a motto that IS: “We are a Community of Christians whose mission is to Love the Lord our God with all our heart, with all our soul, with all our mind, and with all our strength in Lawrence County TN and beyond!”.
We want to be more than people huddled in a building. We want to be a community built on following Jesus the Messiah.
We want to “Love the Lord our God with all our heart, with all our soul, with all our mind, and with all our strength” because Christianity is not all about “us”… it’s about the wonderful victory of Jesus Christ over sin, death, and Satan through His Virgin Birth, Atoning Death on the Cross, and Glorious Resurrection! It’s about the New Creation He is establishing even now (2 Corinthians 5:17)!
Another way of saying that is we want to be all about being, seeking, and equipping people who live Jesus Driven and Empowered lives!
See how we develop disciples here and what it takes to be a servant leader
We work to live by 2 Principles here:
1. Everything we do must ultimately be about the Supremacy of Jesus Christ instead of our needs, wants, whims, and whines.
2. When everything we do IS ultimately about the Supremacy of Jesus Christ, God will be glorified, our needs will be met, and we will see God gloriously bless His people and turn the Church into a true “Community” some describe as a Colony of Heaven! In the process, we will also learn to be delivered from our whining! Now that’s a miracle we all need!
The songs sung in worship, the prayers prayed, the scriptures read, the messages preached, are all chosen with a purpose. That purpose is to help people become mature followers of Jesus Christ and be conformed to His image (Romans 8:28-29; 12:1-2).
Why “Saint Andrew”?
Good question. The answer comes from the Bible and because we want to live out what God’s Word, the Bible teaches. Here’s how the name “Saint Andrew’s” relates to the Bible and living it out:
St. Andrew is remembered as a disciple of John the Baptist who followed our Lord and who brought his brother Peter to the Lord (see John 1:35-40). When Gentiles sought to come to Jesus Andrew was one of those who approached Jesus on their behalf (John 12:22). After following Jesus, history tells us that Andrew, spread the Gospel through Asia Minor and Scythia. The church in Romania, Russia, and Ukraine consider him their “founder”. For reasons that are not entirely clear, the people of Scotland embraced St. Andrew and he is associated with the faith of the Scots church. So close is St. Andrews’s association with Scotland that even today, the Scottish (secular) flag is the St. Andrew’s Cross.
In Hungary, Szent Endre, or St. Andrew, evokes imagery of a locale where a variety of Christian traditions live in harmony – a place for Christian refugees.
Lastly, Andrew’s story ends with his martyrdom. He paid the price of giving His life to Jesus Christ.
By the grace of God, our church will exist to bring others to Christ, to train them to walk in His way and live out His teaching. Our life as a church will not be complete until we give our lives for the cause of Christ to LIVE OUT the Good News of Jesus’ Lordship in our love for one another and our service in Christ’s Name through evangelism, service, and missions.
What’s that Shield?
The shield is the shield of the Reformed Evangelical Synod of America our “denomination”.
This shield is composed of the Cross of St. Andrew with the sign for the Holy Trinity in the center. We figure a shield (part of the Armor of God) with a cross and a Trinity sign would be pretty good for a church!
What is Mission Lawrence’s relationship to St. Andrew’s Church?
Good question. Here’s the answer.
