Philippians - How To Pray for Ourselves and Others (Philippians 1:9-11)
Pastor Chuck Huckaby, July 10, 2011Part of the Philippians series, preached at a Sunday Morning service
When the great Reformer Martin Luther went to his barber one day, he may have been surprised at the question he received while he was receiving a hair cut.
The question was “How do I pray?”
He wrote his response in the form of a letter to his barber to try to help him pray.
It turns out that Martin Luther’s barber just didn’t know how to get started.
How about you?
Here in Philippians 1: 9-11 Paul tells us how he prayed for the Philippians and how, in turn, we can learn to pray in ways that move beyond surface praying into praying for the kind of transformation and blessing upon our lives that most of our intercessions don’t measure up to.

Philippians 1:9-11
9 And it is my prayer that your love may abound more and more, with knowledge and all discernment, 10 so that you may approve what is excellent, and so be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, 11 filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.
