Celebrate Recovery Helps People With Hurts, Habits, and Hang Ups Escape “Denial”
April 2nd, 2010
Lawrenceburg, TN (April 2, 2010) It’s just “common sense”. To solve a problem, you first have to recognize it. But as the old saying goes “common sense isn’t that common.” Or in the case of our personal sins and struggles, facing reality can be very, very painful no matter how much “sense” it makes. One technique people use to escape the pain of facing the consequences of their actions is “Denial”… pretending they really don’t have a problem.
The language of Denial rolls easily off people’s lips as Celebrate Recovery participants well know. Everyday people in denial try to avoid reality saying things like this:
“Look honey, I have a tough job. I need a few drinks to relax after a hard day. That doesn’t mean I have a problem!”
“If you didn’t nag me all the time, I wouldn’t _______________________”
“I don’t have a drug problem… the doctor prescribed those pills for my pain!”
“It doesn’t hurt me when he does that; I’m fine!”
“I eat because you make me so mad, that’s all!”
“He/she doesn’t really have a problem. Everybody acts out like that some time, don’t they?”
At Celebrate Recovery, participants learn the crucial “Step before the first step” is to recognize the many ways people try to escape the reality that they have a problem that is starting to distort their lives and affect the lives of family and friends as well. Unfortunately escaping “Denial” is not a one time exercise like amputating a gangrenous foot… CR participants remind themselves that their hearts require regular and honest evaluation to determine whether their lives have (again) becoming unmanageable? By helping each other move beyond “Denial” Celebrate Recovery participants help each other move on to healing!
